Some Thoughts On: The Raven King

The Raven King (The Raven Cycle #4) Maggie Stiefvater April 26th 2016 Scholastic ******Will probably contain spoilers for this book and the whole series just as a heads up****** I'm not going to try and write a normal review for The Raven King, because quite frankly I don't even know if I'm capable of doing proper reviews any more, and this is not the book or the series where I want to figure that out. That, and my love for this series transcends that of something which I can properly review, as I am completely biased and I *will* fight people about these books. On that note, this is also won't even entirely be about The Raven King on its own. Rather, it's a chance for me to go on and on and on and on and on about how much I love these books and Blue and those darn boys. My biggest fear about The Raven King, as is always the case with final books in a beloved series, was that it wouldn't be a good or fitting ending. I did not need to be worried. Rather than reac...

Movie Review: The Vampire Academy

Based on author Richelle Mead’s worldwide bestselling series, VAMPIRE ACADEMY tells the legend of Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch) and Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry), two 17-year-old girls who attend a hidden boarding school for Moroi (mortal, peaceful Vampires) and Dhampirs (half-vampire/half-human guardians). Rose, a rebellious Guardian-in-training and her best friend, Lissa – a royal vampire Princess - have been on the run when they are captured and returned to St.Vladamirs Academy, the very place where they believe their lives may be in most jeopardy. Thrust back into the perils of Moroi Society and high school, Lissa struggles to reclaim her status while Rose trains with her mentor and love-interest, Dimitri (Danila Kozlovsky), to guarantee her place as Lissa’s guardian. Rose will sacrifice everything to protect Lissa from those who intend to exploit her from within the Academy walls and the Strigoi (immortal, evil vampires) who hunt her kind from outside its sanctuary. Countdown to 5th June: Interview with Susie Day!

Hello guys! I know that I've been a bit absent this month, but I'm back for today because I'm taking part in the great Countdown to 5th June blog tour (organised by Jim at YA Yeah Yeah ) which is a big sort of lead up to the 5th June as a whole bunch of books are being published that day. And I have had the pleasure of getting to interview Susie Day, who is very lovely, and who writes great books. So, I hope you enjoy!  (Me in bold, Susie in not bold/normal/you know what I mean) Can you try and summarise the Pea's Book Of... books, and the newest (and final) book, Pea's Book of Holidays? Someone described them as ‘crumpets-by-the-fire books’ and I love that. I wanted to capture all the reassurance and comfort I got from classics I read as child - the feeling of being told a story, of being in a safe familiar world where nothing too awful could happen - but with a contemporary edge to offset that sweetness, and lots of humour too.  Pea’s Book of Holidays takes Pea, h...

5 Year Blogoversary!

Holy bananas! I actually almost forgot that it was time for my blogoversary (shh, don't tell the blog). This is a huge milestone, especially since my career often gets in the way of being as active here as I would like to be. Let's rewind to 2009. I was a junior in college and I wanted a way to share my love of books. I was inspired by sites like The Story Siren, and even though I had absolutely NO KNOWLEDGE of HTML, I thought I would be fine to start it up. Well, many broken html codes later, and here I am. I still have to google things, but I've met a great community of bloggers. I've seen the good, the bad, and seen a lot of changes within our community. I went on hiatus, fell back in love with blogging...and next year I am determined to make it to BEA so I can finally meet some of you in person! I'll pin my header to my shirt each day so hopefully people recognize me ;) So...now it's time for a contest. Guess the covers, and you'll be entered in to win y...

Mini-Reviews

The Elite by Kiera Cass I enjoyed The Selection, and I just finished The One...so of course it's time for a mini-review of this one. Before I start, I just want to say that whenever I glance at the cover image I always think it looks like the actress who played Ginny Weasley. That has nothing to do with the book, however. I enjoyed that this one really picked up on the dire situation of Illea. The girls have been narrowed down, the drama is amped up, and we see America really begin to develop into the type of leader she could potentially be. The rebels attacking the palace keep everyone on their toes. I was also able to guess a piece of information that didn't pay off until the last book (yes, I'm proud about it). The love triangle is evident, but America is able to simultaneously be true to herself (after growing up in a lower caste) and mature.   Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead I've been burned out on vampires since Twilight , but this looked like a lot of fun. It...

The Crown of Embers review

The Crown of Embers (Fire and Thorns #2) Rae Carson September 18th 2012 Greenwillow Books She does not know what awaits her at the enemy's gate. Elisa is a hero. She led her people to victory over a terrifying, sorcerous army. Her place as the country's ruler should be secure. But it isn't. With her go a one-eyed spy, a traitor, and the man whom—despite everything—she is falling in love with. If she's lucky, she will return from this journey. But there will be a cost. You may or may not know this, but I aboslutely adored the first book in the series, Girl of Fire and Thorns. As such, as soon as I got this book in my hands ...

Monthly Round-up: April

Hey guys! April was another slow month for me, which was disappointing... I was expecting to get lots of reading and work done over the Easter holidays, but it didn't really work out that way. I think the only thing I actually accomplished during the holidays was watching all of Arrow, and then sitting around waiting for the new episode of Arrow... And obsessing over Game of Thrones of course! Though it's been a bit odd lately. Sometimes it is SO on point (the Purple Wedding), and sometimes it's just off (Jaime and Cersei). But we'll see how it goes. Anyway, books! Books read: Murder Most Unladylike by Robin Stevens Captain Marvel Volume 2 by Kelly Sue DeConnick Avengers: The Enemy Within by  Kelly Sue DeConnick Black Widow: The Name of the Rose by Marjorie M Liu Paper Aeroplanes by Dawn O'Porter The City's Son by Tom Pollock The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell Total: 8 It doesn't look that bad, but 3 of these are comics, so re...
